KTM 1290 Adventure - Remove & Install the Fuel Tank Cover

Prep Work

There are a couple steps that need to be completed prior to removing the fuel tank cover. Click on the articles below for detailed instructions.

1. Remove the Seat
2. Remove the Side Panels

Tools Needed

• T30 Torx
• Ratchet

Remove the Fuel Tank Cover

Remove the two screws shown in the image below with a T30 Torx. These screws are located on both sides of the fuel tank cover.

Remove the screw indicated below with a T30 Torx.

Lift the fuel tank cover from the rear, where your seat would be. Once the cover clears the fuel fill cap, slide the cover forward and lift off.

Install the Fuel Tank Cover

Slide the front of the fuel tank cover over the fuel fill cap. There are hooks underneath the front of the fuel tank cover that need to slide underneath the top of the gas tank. Once those are hooked into place, push the fuel tank cover down onto the fuel tank.

Install the screw into the rear of the fuel tank cover with a T30 Torx. This can be torqued to 3.5 Nm or 2.58 lb-ft. Do not over tighten.

Install the screws shown below into both sides of the fuel tank cover with a T30 Torx. The front screw (silver w/flange) can be torqued to 6 Nm or 4.4 lb-ft and the rear screw (black) can be torqued to 3.5 Nm or 2.58 lb-ft.
