Is that pesky service warning message showing on the dash of your KTM motorcycle? Do you prefer to do your own service work on your KTM motorcycle? If so, do not worry you can clear that service warning without having to make a special trip to your KTM dealer. Full detailed instructions on how to perform the service warning reset are shown below. This reset was performed on a 2020 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. If your KTM motorcycle has a similar dash or controls, this should also work for you.

The Straight to it Instructions:

  1. Press the Key On/Race On button with the Kill Switch in the off position.
  2. Click the SET button to clear each warning on the screen, such as the Service Warning, Kill Switch Warning.
  3. Once warnings are cleared, click the SET button again to open the menu.
  4. Click the DOWN arrow button until you reach the Preferences menu item.
  5. With the Preferences menu item highlighted, press and hold both the UP and DOWN arrow buttons together. This will open the Service interval screen.
  6. Click the UP arrow button to select the miles setting. Click the SET button to increase the miles to next service. Each click increments 300 miles.
  7. Click the DOWN arrow button to select the months setting. Click the SET button to increase the months to next service.
  8. Once the miles and months are set, click the BACK button to exit the screen. Mission Accomplished.

The Detailed Instructions:

Power On Your KTM Motorcycle

You need to power on the motorcycle without starting the engine. To do so, make sure the Kill Switch is in the off position. With the Kill Switch in the off position, press the Key On/Race On button to power on the electronics.

Clear Warnings

Once the electronics have completely cycled on and you are seeing the main start screen on the display, clear all warnings. You will probably see a Service Warning along with a Kill Switch Warning. Press the SET button to clear each warning. Keep pressing the SET button until no warnings are being displayed on the screen.

Adjust The Service Interval Settings

Within the Service Interval screen you can adjust both the miles and months until your next service. To adjust the miles, press the UP arrow to select the miles setting. Click the SET button to increase the miles until your next service. Each click of the SET button will increase the setting 300 miles. To adjust the months, click the DOWN arrow to select the months setting. Press the SET button to increase the months until the next service. Each click on the SET button will increase the setting 1 month.

I recommend setting the miles to the next recommended service interval and then setting the months to 12 months. That way if you do not hit the miles interval you will at least be reminded to service the motorcycle once a year.

You will now be back to the main display screen. Congratulations, you have successfully cleared and reset the Service Warning on your KTM motorcycle.
